Halloween Costumes for Babies

As you start thinking about Halloween costume preparations for yourself and your older children, don't forget about baby! Just because your little one isn't yet walking, it doesn't mean he or she can't join in on the fun this year. There are plenty of adorable costumes available for both newborns and infants, and of course you always have the option of making your own if you have the time and talent to do so. But what kind of costumes are out there for baby? Let's take a quick look.

Television characters are always a hit when it comes to babies costumes, so you will have no trouble finding your child's favorite. For example, if your little one loves Barney, why not dress him or her up in that famous purple dinosaur outfit? Not only can you get Barney costumes, you can also find costume for the other dinosaurs on the show, including Baby Bop and B.J. Sesame Street characters are also a hit with babies. You'll be able to find adorable costumes featuring Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and more. Other popular television character costumes out there right now include Blues Clues, Dora the Explorer, Teletubbies, and Thomas the Tank. And don't forget all the Disney costumes out there!

One good thing about character costumes such as these is that they are usually full jump suits with attached hoods. This means you'll be able to layer baby in other clothing underneath the costume and keep her warm with the hood. I don't know what Halloween weather is like where you live, but October 31 always seems to be very rainy and cold here in Chicago, so those types of warm costumes are definitely welcome.

In addition to TV character costumes, animal costumes are also perfect for babies. You can find very cute and cuddly animal outfits that will transform your little boy or girl into a tiny dog, cat, lion, monkey, cow, mouse, or horse. In fact, there's a costume out there for just about any zoo or farm animal that you can think of, so whatever your child's favorite is, you'll be able to get your hands on a decent outfit.

There are several more categories of costumes that are popular for newborns and infants these days. For example, there are a lot of fruit and vegetable baby Halloween costumes. I don't know why, but these seem to be pretty popular too. I've seen costumes that will make your baby look like an ear of corn, a peapod, a chili pepper, a banana, or a strawberry. Uniform costumes are also an easy look to pull off. You can dress your little one, among other thing, as a mini police officer, doctor, fire fighter, or airplane pilot.

Most large costume stores carry an extensive collection of baby costumes in addition to their older children and adult costumes, so you should try shopping at these stores first. Failing that, you can also browse around on the Internet, or sew your own costumes from patterns purchased at craft stores. Whatever you decide to do, baby will love being included in this year's Halloween festivities!
